Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
(And why your energy tank deserves a top-off before the world gets it all).
Let’s talk about mornings.
You wake up, scroll for two seconds (okay, maybe ten), then the daily task list begins: set coffee, make breakfast, do dishes, kids up for school, dog fed, text parents about doctor’s appointments… Then some post or news story bombs your mood, just as someone asks where their shoes are, the dog throws up, and you chip your favorite Dolly Parton coffee mug. Your energy is depleted and mood ruined before you’ve even had coffee.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the truth: most of us start the day giving away our energy before we’ve even given any to ourselves. We pour from an empty cup, then wonder why by 3 p.m. we’re Googling “how to move to a quiet island with Wi-Fi and snacks.”
That’s where this week’s theme comes in:
Energy flows where attention goes.
If your attention is scattered, your energy will be too.
But when you choose to direct your attention (even for 30 minutes) toward you, something powerful happens.
You Fill Your Own Tank First
When you move your body before the world starts making demands, you’re saying:
“I matter. My energy matters. My peace matters.”
And here’s the fun part… when you move, your energy moves too! It’s like unclogging the drain on your spirit. Suddenly, your shoulders drop, your mind clears, and that low-level buzz of overwhelm gets replaced with, “Okay, I’ve got this.”
We don’t work out just for muscles (though, hello, strong arms make me feel like Wonder Woman). We move because it’s how we shift our state: from stressed to strong, from foggy to focused, from “I can’t even.” to “Let’s go.”
It’s 30 Minutes, Not Forever
You don’t need an hour. You don’t need the perfect outfit, matching weights, or a clean kitchen (but well done! if you do). You just need to show up for yourself for thirty minutes.
Because thirty minutes of attention on you can change the next fifteen hours of your day.
It’s not about burning calories; it’s about burning off the noise before it takes over.
Invest Your Attention Wisely
So this week, pay attention to what you’re paying attention to.
Notice when your thoughts drift to what you don’t have, what you didn’t do, or what you should be doing because you saw some woman with a perfect kitchen doing it on Instagram. Especially notice anytime your inner voice starts to be critical or mean to you.
Is you attention focusing on things that make you feel like crap or is your attention on things that lift your spirits?
Try turning that attention to things that do fill you up: what are you grateful for? What gave you a spark of joy? Who is someone who makes your life a little shinier? Could you send a text just saying ‘grateful for you!’?
Pay attention to things that fill you up.
Because when your attention goes toward what fuels you, your energy follows.
And that means when your family, your job, or your inbox needs you later… you’ll be coming from a full tank, not fumes.
Try starting your day moving for 30 and see how it effects your mood, your energy, and how you interact with others after you’ve taken a moment for you first.
Roll out your mat, throw on that playlist, and give your attention and energy, back to the person who deserves it most.
You.
Because you matter. Always.
