Calm Is a Practice
Some weeks, my nervous system feels like it’s running a marathon even when I’m standing still. That’s when I remind myself: calm is something I practice, not something I magically wake up with. I’ve learned that my body actually knows how to shift into a softer, more grounded place - I just have to give it the right invitation.
For me, calm starts with simple things: stepping outside for a walk and letting the fresh air slow my breath, sitting in the warm quiet of an infrared sauna, or rolling out my mat on Thursdays for 30 minutes of gentle yoga with our community. These moments help activate my parasympathetic nervous system - the part of me designed to rest, digest, and let go.
And every time I choose one of these practices, I feel myself return to center a little faster. Calm really is a skill we strengthen, one small choice at a time.
Stop and Savor The Small Moments
This Thanksgiving feels different. I’m 47, stuck right in the middle of the sandwich generation — an 88-year-old dad who’s slowing down fast and 11-year-old twins who are still little enough to want me, but growing up faster than I want to admit.
Lately I’ve been feeling this pull to be wildly, deeply present. My dad’s health is shifting, my kids’ worlds are getting bigger, and I can feel change coming from both ends. Some days I’m a little pre-sad about it all — watching my dad lose pieces of his independence, and watching my kids move closer to teenage life where family is no longer their center.
But then there are these ordinary, perfect moments: eating soup with my dad as he jokes about needing a “babysitter,” or watching my twins laugh while my dad shows them how a drill press works. These tiny pockets of time where everyone I love is still here, still themselves.
And I keep reminding myself: Be here now. Savor the small moments.
This year, that’s my whole Thanksgiving intention.
If you need the reminder too, this week’s blog might be the hug your heart needs.
Stronger, Not Smaller
Stronger, Not Smaller
In this week’s blog, I’m sharing a personal shift that’s changed everything for me: choosing to be stronger, not smaller. After years of body-image ups and downs, I’ve learned that my worth has nothing to do with my size and everything to do with how I show up for myself. If you’re ready to take up more space in your life, your body, and your movement routine, I hope this story encourages you the way it’s encouraged me.
Little Steps, Big Life
Little Steps, Big Life
This week on the blog, I share a sweet walk with my 88-year-old dad. It’s a reminder that longevity isn’t built in big, dramatic moments, but in the small, consistent choices we make every day.
If you’ve ever wondered whether the little things you do each day really matter… they do. And this week’s post shows exactly why.
Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
Ever start your day giving away your energy before you’ve even brushed your teeth? You’re not alone. Most of us wake up and immediately start pouring into everyone and everything else… and then wonder why we’re running on empty by mid-morning.
This week’s theme, “Energy flows where attention goes,” is your reminder to fill your own tank first. Thirty minutes of movement, breath, and attention on you can completely change how you move through your day.
Because when you focus on what fuels you, not what drains you, everything shifts.
